Cybernetik’s Robotic Root-End Machining for Wind Turbine Blades doubles the productivity of windmill blade manufacturing vis-à-vis special purpose machinery (SPM). Wind turbine manufacturers benefit from this system that uses robots to adjust to changes in layout and windmill blade diameter. Haptic feedback and condition monitoring optimize productivity and tool life. The system is available in two variants for different blade diameter ranges for horizontal wind turbines.
Operations of this wind turbine manufacturing setup start with a laser system identifying the root end centre and the sawing plane off the blade placed in position by an overhead crane. Thereafter, a single robot saws off an excess material ring from the root end surface and mills it to the required finish after the shuttle system removes the ring. The same robot then marks axial and radial drill locations, and drills holes. The system can machine onshore as well as offshore wind turbines.
