Buffalo Extraction Systems’ Continuous Winterization System efficiently separates the unwanted fats, lipids, and waxes from raw cannabis extracts. Winterization is usually the first post-extraction operation on crude cannabis oil. The removal of these undesired elements ensures purity and prolonged shelf life for medical cannabis products.

To start with, the operator loads ethanol into the storage tank of the continuous winterization setup through a suction lance. Temperature control unit cools the ethanol down to very low temperatures of around –450C. Thereafter, the system transfers the chilled ethanol to the extraction tank where it mixes with the crude cannabis extract. Continuous agitation of the mixture efficiently precipitates lipids, fats, and waxes. Multistage vacuum filtration then removes these separated solids from the mixture.
